Went and broke the catch mechanism

I was trying to replace the right headlight on my beetle and seeing as the catch mechanism wasn't moving, i applied more force. This however caused the handle to break off and now i'm stuck with a burnt out headlight and a broken catch mechanism. does anyone know of a way to get the headlight out by another means or recommend a way to get the catch mechanism unlocked so i can replace it. I don't mind paying for a new part, i just would prefer not to spend money at the dealer for their labor. Any help would be very much appreciated.

The latch housing unbolts with I think phillips or torx screws; but I don't know how easy it'll be to take out. Someone with more experience in this, please chime in......

Nevermind. I fixed the problem. It took me two days, about 6 hours and a trip to the junkyard but i managed to remove the light, replace the light harness and the broken plastic pieces and she is all back to together again. I have a few things to add to the how-to based on what i learned after this whole thing, so i'll add that as soon as i gather my thoughts.
