Default Need Ideas on what CEL codes mean

SO yesterday while putting along in Der Beetle, the CEL came on. Stopped at the local ZOne of Auto's and it threw two codes.

16795- P0411
Sec.Air Inj.Sys. Incorrect Flow Detected

And

17536- P1128
Long Term Fuel Trim mult.,Bank1 System too Lean

Ok, so that sounds good and all, but what the heck does it mean? I was thinking MAF all along but the auto whiz at autozone said that my whole ECU may need to be calibrated or the smog pump was gone.

I dont have much experience with the MKIV platform. Ive always dealt with OBDI MKIII 2.0's and ive always found them some what peppy. The beetle 2.0 just seems plain anemic. Theres no real pull to it. Is this normal? Or do you think that this problem has been there since i bought the car? Also, when im in fith or some other gear where the car is at very low rev's (1,500 to 2,000), if i romp on the gas to get some speed..... A: I really dont gather to much speed very quickly, and B: I get some pretty good knocks. Do you all think this is related to those codes?
ARRRRGH!!!

Thanks for all the help!

Both codes maybe related. Look for a vacuum leak in one of the hoses. The one going to the combi valve on the back side of the motor is the usual suspect. The cloth covering hides cracked and broken hoses from watchful eyes. Most people replace them with silicone hoses.

As mentioned, check the vacuum hoses leading to and from your air injection pump. For the second code, make sure the vacuum hose leading to the fuel pressure regulator is not split/broken.

Yes, the vacuum lines would be the starting point. Also much cheaper than a new MAF. Unless you have less than 80,000 miles. In which case it is covered by warranty.
