Default Different Engine?

Hey everyone. I was looking at the new VW website today and they list 2 models for the beetle. It's new beetle and beetle with a 2.5l. I thought all bugs now had the same engine?? The non 2.5l (on the site) is cheaper and it says it's 5 seconds slower to 60. Any ideas?

Yeah, that's weird, the cheaper and slower model gets worse gas mileage?

I couldn't find anything anywhere in the new VW site that sez there is anything but the 2.5L engine for the '07 NB.

2.5 is a trim line like they have on the Jetta. I don't know why it would be any slower, but I know that the 5spd (which is standard on the non-2.5) get worse mileage and may be slower, but the auto isn't standard on any trim level...I'm not aware of any engine change, just feature content...the non-2.5 is as stripped as they come for new beetles...hmmm...

I think you're talking about the 'Value Edition' base model. When you select it on VW Configurator, you can't select some options and/or packages that you can on the regular model.

The slower 0-60 time could result from comparing the 5sp to the Sport Mode on the Automatic.

I thought one of the 2.5 engines came with a low emissions option.. maybe this is what they are talking about.

Must be a typo. Same engine and transmission as standard on both models.

Heck, you don't need a turbo with that lil' 2.5L. Out '06 coupe is always rarin' to go! No grass grownin' under it's tires!

That's what it is. The lower base is the 5 speed. The higher is for the tiptronic.

Cool redo on the site too! I was checking it out this weekend!

1.8T is 8.5 secs, 2.5L is 8.4/manual and 8.6/tip, so it looks like they have same times, but, if you had a rear fog light and a euroswitch, the numbers are even better for the 1.8T.

true!!

I used to drive 1.8T GLi and now with this 2.5 Beetle.
2.5 engine does have power and good torque,
especially when in manual mode!

Bill,
i saw that post before writing. i wrote my post base on experience.

2003 Golf GTi(MK4), 2005 Jetta GLi(MK4) and the Beetle Turbo S,
all 3 cars has the same engine, the second generation of 1.8Turbo.

actually...
no need to trust what i write in here,
but ask anybody that ever drive those 3 cars and have them test the new 2.5 engine.
See what they said about which one is faster..

Before buying my current 2006 Beetle,
i drive 2003 GTi and that 2005 GLi(MK4).

I really love the power on the 1.8Turbo engine and i had a lot of fun time.

if these number base on the Beetle only,
then you probably right..

sorry..my comparison is base on different cars.

If just engine,
i still go for the 1.8Turbo.

Correct, 180hp > 150hp.

Believe me, I'm no fan of the 2.jive engine.
