Hi,
I just purchased a 2007 New Beetle. The dealer was trying to sell me an extended service contract. They said the warranty thru VW is limited and only covers any repair to correct a manufacturer's defect in material or workmanship. The Extended Service Contract will cover all components whether they are wear and tear or not. Example, fuel pump, water pump, alternator. Those types of things. It will cost me total $3600 more on monthly car payments. Is it worth to buy this? Please advise. Thanks in advance, Michael |

My mother-in-law has worked at a new car dealership for over 30 years. In her opinion, an extended warranty is nothing but a ploy to get the buyer to spend more money, and should be avoided unless you just have money to burn.

VW will cover a waterpump that fails before it's schedule maint, along with the fuel pump, etc. if it breaks in 4yr/50k (I think thats the right warranty) it's gonna be fixed under warranty. Don't buy the extended!!!

When i got my 1999 NB in 1998, they only had a 2 year warranty, so i bought the extended warranty for about $1000. After 8 years, never used it though.
When i bought my 2006 NBC last December, it now comes with a 4 year warranty and that seems fine. The dealer didn't put much of an effort in trying to sell me the extended warranty this time.... |

That warranty price is completely outrageous--around double what a complete bumper 2 bumper 7yr./100K warranty should cost. You do not have to buy or decide on an extended warranty now anyway. Generally, you can buy one reasonably up until 36K miles/3 years from in service date whichever comes first--that gives you plenty of time under your factory warranty to decide if you will be keeping the car long and see how it has been issues-wise up until that point.

I have bought warranty's in the past for some of my vehicles and have never used the. They always expire before something goes wrong. The dealer wants your money and is betting that you will never use the warranty and just made an extra $3600 for nothing. I will never buy an extention again. They are worthless on new cars.

I know it may have added more money but a 5 year warrenty on my car that will cover the O2 sensors and things like that. I did check into it before I bought it. Your warrenty does only cover certain things. I also know that everything is covered under your first 12000 miles or one year on your for defects. But after that you are on your own. It is called your Limited new vehicle Warrenty. Basically what the extended warrenty covers is everything that your New Car Warrenty doesn't cover. I was lucky to have it on my last beetle or I would have had to pay close to 3000 do get car fixed. but that extended warrenty covered everything. Mine is good for the time that I will be paying on the car. so I bought a 5 year warrenty.
