Unhappy Extremly loud engine fan in Arizona

I just boutght a 2006 Beetle and have noticed that the engine fan is extremly loud when the car gets warmed up. I had a 2002 Beetle here in Pheonix and never had a problem. The dealer said it was normal. Has anyone else had a problem with their cooling fan?? My wife says she can hear me about a block away because it sounds like a jet engine coming down the street.

My 2006 made a REALLY loud noise too...It sounded like an emergency siren that they sound to warn you about tornadoes or tsunamis...It is normal, the dealer replaced mine and it still made that noise and the eventually got word from VW that it's a normal thing...they seem to have solved the issue for 2007 as my new '07 doesn't scream like that

Sounds fishy to me. Do you have any other VW dealerships near you that you could take it to?

We have a 2006 NB and I haven't noticed a loud noise of any sort (bought new from a dealer that I won't take it back to because of their crappy service dept.). Luckily we have 2 other dealers in my city (Indianapolis) to choose from.

I live in Phoenix, and noticed that I kept hearing what I thought was an air raid siren in the distance. It turned out to be the cooling fan on my 2006 NBC - sometimes it's so loud, if you're parked in the garage with the car going you can't talk!

I took the car to Camelback Volkswagen. Evidently, they switched from two small fans to one big one in 2006, hence the loud noise. I tried to have it repaired, but was told it was normal. I complained to VWOA, who responded very promptly, but again, told me it's normal.

That is EXACTLY what I heard on my '06 too!! It's kind of funny in my opinion but it did get a little annoying. It gives it character for sure and it is normal.

The only time I'm really bothered by it is when the top is down and the radio is off - otherwise, I've learned to live with it.

I bought my car in December, and didn't hear it until May - so I'm hoping that when it cools off, it will go away for a while.

Smile Loud fan

I just bought a 2001 1.8 turbo 5 speed, the engine light came on and I took it to a volkswagen dealer! They put it on the machine and to codes came up for minor things! They replaced most of the hoses because they were falling apart! I picked it up and they said there was nothing wrong with it and that I had got a good deal. But then I hear like this siren going off in the distance when I was sitting at the drive thru window, I later looked under the hood and noticed it was my cooling fan! I was wondering if it was doing that at the dealership. It had to have been sounding off but they must have known it was normal as many of you have also said. I just dont want my baby to blow up! Lol! Ive always wanted a bettle and now I own one! The sound seems a bit embarrassing when your at the drive thru but I love my bug so I guess I will get use to it !
