Default Low pitch humming noise

My wife just got her 2007 NB. At a constant speed around 20mph there is a low pitch hum(seems like an air flow hum). Once I get over that speed it seems to disappear. We had a TDI for 5 years so Im not all that familiar with what the gas engine will sounds like. Hope this makes sense.

It sounds like you are reffering to the humming sound of the 2.5, this is perfectly normal. My mom actually noticed it on my car today and I told her the same thing.

I went out and drove mine and paid attention to the noises it makes around that speed and yes, mine makes that noise too The 2.5 is a much louder, much different sounding engine than the old 2.0's, but I think it sounds awesome!

Ours does this too.. It seems to be when A/C on.. I bet it is the engine cooling fans that come on with the A/C. I dont drive this one much and took it to the store. At first I thought something was wrong...lol

Yeah Mine sounds like a space ship winding down when I turn the car off with the A/C running. Hang your head out the window and try and see if yours does this. It's kinda cool actually!

Kennyk the "hum" you are refering to actually happens through a given RPM range as opposed to a certain speed. My 07 does it too, it happens at or about 2300rpm's. I posted a thread when I discovered mine doing it and based on the replies found it to be a common thing in the 2.5 engines.

I have an '08 and had a bad "hum" that sounded like it came from the engine compartment. Had the dealer baffled. Only happened when it was hot and the air condition ran, or up in altitude. They looked under my rear seat and replaced I believe a fuel filter or fuel pump. Hasn't made noise since. It sounded like a tiny motor that wouldn't turn off.
