Hi. I think the new Jetta, with the 2.5L engine has electro-mechanical steering (non-hydraulic). I heard the New Beetle (thinking of buying the New Beetle Convertible) with the same engine, has hydraulic steering? Is this true?

I had to drive hubby's car yesterday (05 Malibu) and it had been a few months since I have. I asked him if something was wrong with it because the steering seemed so loose to me!
I like the "tight" steering in the NBC. I feel like I have more control. ![]() |

The Beetle is still based on the MKIV platform, after all. VW probably didn't want to spend the money necessary to re-design it and re-tool the factory when they rolled out the MkV.But that's OK. The MkIV a mature, stable design with many, many millions of miles on it ![]()
