Default Does the New Beetle Convertible have electro-mechanical steering?

Hi. I think the new Jetta, with the 2.5L engine has electro-mechanical steering (non-hydraulic). I heard the New Beetle (thinking of buying the New Beetle Convertible) with the same engine, has hydraulic steering? Is this true?

Yes, that is true. For some reason VW leaves the beetle out of pretty much all neat improvements and the electro-mechanical steering is one of those. Even the newest of New Beetles will have the regular old hydrolic steering

You know that is funny. I drove my wifes 06 NBC tonight and asked her has her steering gone out. It seemed very hard. Then it dawned me i had got use to my 07 GTI.....

I had to drive hubby's car yesterday (05 Malibu) and it had been a few months since I have. I asked him if something was wrong with it because the steering seemed so loose to me! I like the "tight" steering in the NBC. I feel like I have more control.

Don't forget the torsion beam rear suspension The Beetle is still based on the MKIV platform, after all. VW probably didn't want to spend the money necessary to re-design it and re-tool the factory when they rolled out the MkV.

But that's OK. The MkIV a mature, stable design with many, many millions of miles on it
