Default Oil cannister removal tool?

My wife's 2006 is ready for it's second oil change, and I don't feel like paying the dealer prices. Anyone have a link to the tool that fits over the end of the cannister and hooks to your ratchet?

Also, we don't have any local stores (even Walmart) that seem to carry 5w40 synthetic. Can you use 5w30 instead? The manual is really vague on this...

Thanks.

John

They sell oil filter wrenches at most auto parts stores. They're big open-ended plastic sockets. And when replacing the filter, use one from the dealer. FRAM is absolute trash.

Yes, they do. What size are we looking at?

I found this one on Amazon, and this one on VWVortex, neither of them list sizes.

Ordered the same one. When you get it, you'll get a good laugh, it is VW stock.

Also, there is a company Samstagsales.com, that carries the VW tool to drain the oil filter housing.

I have never been through such an ordeal just for an oil change. Took forever to find the oil in the right viscosity, had to order the oil filter canister removal tool, and I'll have to pull the car on ramps next Saturday to see if I have all the right screw drivers. My biggest fear though is to see what damage Jiffy Lube might have done--my wife took her car there for the first oil change...

I made the mistake of going to jiffy lube, uggg. They did not have the right size wrench thingies to get the skid plate off and they stripped one of the screws before they gave up. I then took it to the euro place and they had to drill it out. I ended up going back to the jiffy place to tell them they owe me $30 for the drill out and they handed over the money.

I know an independent mechanic who has a shop across the street from a JL. He loves the money he makes when they call him over to redo a stripped drain plug. He does 3 or so a week. JL is for those who don't care.
