Pretty easy install to do yourself.

I haven't looked for 2.5 intakes yet sorry; but I know it's a good DIY for novice mechanics.

has anyone seen the fujistu, can it fit? Time to change mine to, and would rather go with a cold air instead of a drop in.

Folks...any aftermarket "intake" is actually going to turn your intake into a "hot air intake." The stock intake draws from the fenderwell which makes it a "cold air intake." It also flows more and filters better than your little 2.5 will ever need. Many of these aftermarket intakes actually reduce filtering capacity and airflow.

They will provide no performance increase, and the reduced filtering capacity could actually harm your engine in the long run. The only thing an aftermarket intake does is make more noise...which only makes you think you have a power increase.

isnt the intake thats located in the fenderwell aka "snowbox" a sealed system? or is it open, if its inside the fenderwell, how does it get air?

im debating removing that snowbox portion all together and routing some flexible tubing, would that be a better option?

ah, dzlbug, how i love to talk shop with thee...

while you are correct that the aftermarket units are effectively warm air intakes, there is still performance gains to be had. the factory airbox on the gassers do NOT flow enough air up top for optimum performance. the air inlet is a 1.5" (if that) oval...hardly adequate.

i have modified my factory airbox on my 2.0 by enlarging the inlet to a full 3", and extended tubing into the lower fenderwell.

on my 2.5 swap, the factory airbox from the swap vehicle was not available, so i did not have that option. i instead acquired a 3" coupler, attached the maf to that, and put a filter directly off it.

the 2.5 in the mk4 is a tight fit, a cai may be possible, but i have a warm air intake, and i notice no loss over stock.

besides, who doesn't love the sound a vw makes uncorked?

Cheat, I did the same thing on my old 91 jetta, I took a dremel and cut out a larger inlet circle.

If I wanted to do the same on my 2.0 NB, is it pretty easy to do
