Default 2.5L question

Does the 2.5L engine use a timing belt or chain?

Has anyone found out what makes the 20 additional horsepower (from 150 t0 170)on some of the 2.5L applications? Software or hardware?

Thanks! Sam

And thank God for that. I've changed enough timing belts over the last 10 years to last a good long while. The chain should last until you are tired of the car and trade it for a new one.

the extra 20hp is all software. that extra 20hp makes a TON of difference in the rabbit/jetta...enough so that given the choice between a chevy impala or vw jetta as a company car, i'd choose the jetta because now you can actually pass in top gear as opposed to it downshifting with the 150hp variant.

or you can purchase REVO/ GIAC/ C2 software for the 150 hp variant and love it just as much.

I have REVO in my 07 Rabbit and it is a workhorse for sure. Keeps on pulling throught the rpm band and awakens the 3-5K range in 3-5th gear.
