Strange noise?

In addition to the higher rpm's and louder engine noise at start up (which I am told is normal), has anyone notice a whining noise when the engine runs at a constant 1200-1400 rpm? It only seems to occur at or through this rpm range. Its not a high pitched noise, sounds more like "wooooooo", but again only at this rpm level.

Ya, both of my 2.5's make that noise and so have the other ones I've been in. Not sure what it is, but seems normal to me.

My bug was making the same noise after longer trips in warmer weather. The dealer replaced the fuel pump. The noise was a "whriing" sound like a fan left on coming from the engine compartment. This fixed the problem. However, I then uncovered another sound, like a traveling hum. They decided it was the fuel filter? under the rear seat. It's been quite since then, but the weather has been mild.
