Default Hesitant take off on 2.5 Motor - Other Owners please?

Hesitant take off on 2.5 Motor - Motor hesitates

I bought this 2006 NB from Alabama and it has 19500 miles on it, and I NOW just filled it with 93 Octane. I will assume the old owners Only used 87 octane.

When I place the car in drive (automatic), I have to step on it, almost goose it a bit and then it abruptly goes. (not a tranny thing by any means).

Do you think its a gas thing or should I put something in the gas to clean anything or do you think its time to bring to dealer???.

Its really just at the absolute take off.

What do other owners say??
Joe

It may take more than one tank to adjust to the different fuel. I had a '98 with the 2.0, it didn't get great fuel mileage, but my dad always gets great fuel mileage with Shell 93 Octane, so I switched from Mobil/Exxon/Amoco to Shell 93 only, it took 5 or 6 tanks for the beetle to run perfectly after starting the switch.

Why 93 octane? Your 2.5 is meant for 87 octane. It won't save you any money or run any better with premium gas...

In our BMWs, you can reset the throttle-by-wire programming to original factory specs, eliminating whatever it learned of the previous driver's habits. Some Porsches and MBs can also be reset the same way, and who knows, VWs may share similar programming... might be worth a try:

Key in ignition, Ignition off.

Press accelerator all the way down.

Turn key on, but DO NOT START ENGINE. Measure ten seconds via second hand on watch or chronometer (be precise).

Turn key off, remove foot from accelerator.

Start car and drive while computer starts to memorize your driving habits...

Try it and let us know if it works...

A few people told me to run 93 octane, but I never have. I go by the book...or the org!!

I guess people still wanna believe that more=good.

I WILL TRY IT AND GET BACK TO YOU- THATS A GREAT IDEA!!! THANK YOU!!!

I WILL SAY, I BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF TECHTRON AND DUMPED IT IN, AND I DID NOTICE A BIT OF DIFFERENCE- I am hoping to use up the tank of gas, but with 97 degree days, who wants to go out.

But I will certainly try resetting the computer. That was a super great tip.

Now, where's that babysitter....

My 07 does the same thing. Have to romp it a little on takeoff especially if the air is on.

1. No need for 93. Stay with 87.
2. I believe it's the throttle response we're discussing here. NB is not a performance car, so that's the way it's designed. If you really want faster throttle response, you may want to try getting your ECU re-programmed by a 3rd party.

I did do the re programing of the pedal with the instructions above. It certainly help and now makes the car more fun to drive.

But yes I do have jolt it a bit to get going.

Thank you everyone for all your help !

You mean you tried the "Key in ignition, Ignition off. Press accelerator all the way down..." trick?

Did you feel any difference after the trick?

My car is at the dealer and they said the hesitation was from the MAF.

Maf was replaced and there is no more hesitation. Wouldnt think it would go bad this soon but it did.

No CEL or codes. My dealer said they had replaced a number of the MAF's because of hesitation problems. She accelerates like a cheetah now.
