08 Beetle Code Lights
Hello everyone,
I have installed audio systems for years and never had the problems that I've had with a vehicle throwing codes from my ignorance. What has transpired is I removed the factory Radio and installed a Alpine IVA-D100 head unit. The head unit is the one that has options for all the Ai-Net goodies and has the built in DVD. Now when I changed the Radio I plugged the aftermarket wire harness in to the factory harness to wire my Alpine in, I had the wires stripped and shorted the ignition wire and blew the fuse. So I am not sure if the blow fuse threw the air bag light on or if taking the stock Radio out did it but now there is a code thrown and my air bag light is on. Then I installed a reverse camera on the rear of the car to show what was behind you backing up. Again I had a bare wire end and it blew the back up light fuse and my speedo stopped as well, replaced the back up light fuse and now I have a engine light on the cluster as well. So I have 2 codes that mean nothing wrong but I have the air bag light and engine code lights on. I need to delete these codes, does anyone know if I can buy a electronic tool to plug into my ECM plug and clear the codes myself, or do I need to take my Beetle to my dealer.
I guess I should not say I have done installs for years since this makes me look like a fool. I guess I had a brain relapse that day, these new cars are very sensitive to any thing that is not kosher to there needs. Any help would be greatly appreciated for my foolishness.
Thank you Chad
