Default Oil filter "wrench"

I have a 2008 NB Vert. I'm getting ready for my first oil change and want to have all the parts and pieces before I start. I have read all the oil change posts I can find and some list the wrench as 36mm and some as 74/76mm. Or is 36 for the drain cap and 74/76 for the filter housing ? I ordered the 36 from GAP but now I'm wondering if I need the 74/76 too.

TIA

- Jim

Here is a link to a discounter that sells the parts. You'll find the wrench for the filter housing there. Also, there is a special tool to drain the housing before you loosen it. Some just shove a screwdriver in the opening, but I bought the tool. His prices are about as good as I have found.

One other point, there are 15, you read correct fifteen, fastners that need to be removed to pull the plate under the car to get at the drain plug. Two of the fasteners are 12 point torx and are not easily found. I ended up getting a PELA oil extractor. With the extractor and the filter drain, you can change the oil and not even get your hands dirty.

I have a 2007 and there's only 4 that need removed. 2 on each side. The screwdriver to drain the housing works fine, just hold a small container up to catch the oil. The wrench to remove the housing can be found at Wal-Mart.
Very simple car to change oil on. (Unless the 08 is different).

Hear-hear regarding the oil extractor. Save yourself the aggravation with removing all those fasteners holding the belly pan up. I changed to oil "only" one time on my wife's '05 Passat TDI. I went to the dearler and got info on the correct allen socket to remove the drain plug, got home and thought..."gee this is going to be a snap...." :-( then I saw all those darn fasteners.

The very first thing I bought one day later was the oil extractor. Wise choice and best money I evr spent...well next to my '07 NBC that is :-)

Looking at samstagsale Leaves me with the same question, do I need the "Matra 3417" or the "HZ 2169-36" or both ?

Any stores/chains that carry the Pela ? I need to change the oil this weekend before a 2k mile trip. I tried Tractor Supply because I heard they had something similar but ours in town didn't seem to carry it.

Thanks

I use the MATRA 3417 for the oil filter housing and the MATRA T40057 for draining the oil filter housing.

As far as a PELA, do a search on eBay for a PELA 650. Alternatively you could use a PELA 6000, but the 650 has a bigger reservoir.
