Default Newbie here....hello all

Hey guys,

I just picked up an '06 Beetle convertible, and wanted to introduce myself. I am looking forward to learning all I can about these cars. First off, what oil and manual gearbox oil do you all recommend? The car only has 20,000 miles on it, but I want to get it on a good schedule and get some good fluids in it. Also, what else can you all recommend to check or do. Thanks for any help you can give.

Congrats on the new car!

Oil is going to be somewhat of a personal preference, however it should meet the VW 502 standards. We do have oil service kits available that include Pentosin Synthetic (meets VW 502 standards) and also include a new OEM oil filter and drain plug w/ crush washer.

I've been using the Pentosin for a number of years on my personal cars and have been extremely happy with it.

For gearbox oil, our best seller is the Redline brand. For your application, the Redline MTL would be the best option. VW does consider the transmission a "lifetime fluid", but we find it is best to change it out at some point. Typically at higher mileage, but there is no issue doing it earlier.

At 20k miles, you are still a little ways to go before the 40k service. At 40k, the air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs and fuel filter are all good things to replace.

If the car is running great with no issues, then it should just be a matter of keeping clean fluids in the car and enjoying it!
