Default sagging hood insulation

2006 NBC, 2.5 --- the insulation on the underside of our hood is sagging and with the vibration of the engine, there is a rip/tear in the insulation.

Is there any method to hold the insulation on to the contour of the undeside of the hood?

thanks -jsaxcski

The leading cause of a saggy hood-insulation is oil.

No way to re-attach it. Just undo the clips and take it out.

It's got 2 purposes, sound damping, and fire-suppresion. So really, re-attaching it would just keep it from doing it's fire-supression duties anyway. (melts clips, drops into engine bay to help smother.)

If either creates a big concern for you; look to replace it.

Besides, if the car catches fire; it's over anyway. regardless of this little blanket.

My 2.0 doesn't even have any underhood insulation. Love hearing the engine

I was quoted $345 for the insulation padding the other day when they replaced the transmission under warranty. 36K miles. They tried to tell me since I was getting a "freebie" I should do it as the paint will "bubble" as they put it. I politely declined, went home and found some of the silver insulation I had bought from Lowe's and used it in the 63. I cut strips 12"x4" wide and attached them with aluminum tape. Once the first layers was done, I attached a second this time in full length. No sagging at all, looks clean, and much better than stock. have used it in all my cars since 2005 with no issues at all. Here it is:http://www.lowes.com:80/pd_13353-56291-ST16025_0_?productId=1014123&Ntt=reflectix&Ntk=i_p roducts&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=reflectix$y=0$x=0

I had the same problem. Oil caused it.
