6 liters or not 6 liters

I just did my first hands-on oil change on this '07 NB. after checking the dip stick, I'm really confused.

page 250 on the user's manual and references posted on the web says 6 liters (6.3 quarts). I poured in measured 5.5 liters (half on the last bottle) and planned to pour in the rest by reading the dip stick. imagine my surprise when the oil level is about 3/4" above the "do not add more" mark!

what happened? by the looks of my oil container it looks about right that 6 liters came out of the oil pan (plus some drippings from the oil filter housing).

but from the looks of dip stick it's about more than a liter over the limit. or is there something funny with the dip stick? the dip stick says "07K 115 611F" on one side and "PA 66" on the other.

could y'all confirm you guys got the same thing? just trying to make sure before I begin to siphon off some oil from dip stick opening.

There's some oil that lives in the pump/piping once you start the car.

The same thing happened with me in my '99 2.0 during my last oil change. My car is supposed to take 4.5 quarts and it usually does. But this last time I put in 4 and it was almost to the top of the dipstick. I drove it for a bit and the level came down. Ended up adding the extra .5 quarts after a few drives later.
