i also want to make it a stick and turbo it

Just get a better car I think. I can see a swap being doable.. Even turboing your car would be fine but I can see that setup running you $10-15K easily and you could have something nicer for that kind of cash.

There are turbo kits available for the 2.5L motor. I haven't done much research on them but I've heard okay things.

For what it's worth, installing the 2.5L is more work than it's really worth, to me. Not only are you swapping the engine, but also the cluster/ECU (different redline, for example), P/S pump reservoir, airbox, etc. Might be a better proposition to get a car that already has the engine you want, and you know it'll run right, and be cheaper, versus yours that may not run perfect and costs you more.

Sell it.. buy something else. Not worth the trouble... unless of course you are 'UBER' loaded with cash and have nothing better to do.

For the trouble, i'd swap a VR6 and boost that personally.

Or sell your 2.0 and buy a 1.8t they have a good amount of potential.

Here's a good rule of thumb an old hot-rodder told me once: "Don't build a car you can buy."

Why? It's always cheaper and less hassle in the long run. You want a 2.5L to turbo it? Buy a newer car w/ a 2.5L; you just want more power? best bang for the buck is to get a 1.8T; just want to spend yourself into the poorhouse? swap in a VR6 and twin turbo it!

i've done it!

i swapped a 2006 beetle motor into a 2001 jetta wagon.

i have 9,000 miles thus far on the swap, and no issues. i could write a book though, but if you really want to know...

to me!

i've been doing a few different mk4 motor swaps right now (all in different stages of payment/disassembly), and i'm fast becoming partial to the 2.5.

i just finished another 2.5/6spd swap, this time it took 2 days instead of 5 weeks like the first time around. i was even able to recode the cluster to accept the 5cyl tach input, thereby saving about $300 or so.

the next swap that's slated to finish is a 3.2l/dsg swap into an auto 2.0 jetta, it's gonna be fun (if i can code the haldex out of the ecu/tcu).

I don't know what the differences are, but C2motorsports does a 2.5 turbo kit for the MKV Rabbit.
As far as the swap goes, I've always been a fan of "Don't build a car you can buy" unless your motor is shot, and you aren't working on your only car I would just find one you like with the motor you want in it.

the c2 kit does fit the beetle's 2.5, the intercooler piping is modified, but it does fit, and jeff can write the software for you.
