How do you remove the engine cover on the 2.5?

here's what i used. sanded down all the flat surfaces with a palm sander...

that's just one coat. it came out a little more orange than i'm looking for...next coat will be with a different red caliper paint...if that doesn't work, we'll go custom color

cameron,

the engine cover is really easy to remove. just give it an upward tug on one of the front corners...not too hard though....you'll see it'll release without much effort. the front comes off first and then there's two clips on the back....

just reverse the process to replace....

i'm thinking the bamabug needs a white engine cover.....something professionally done in a nice white gloss to match the exterior.....you could be the first 4W new beetle.....eh?

here's an update to my engine cover painting whoas.........

like the color, don't like the gloss....

the flat obviously hid a multitude of sins....if it had a better/smoother finish it might be doable....

I've been pondering this very project for this summer, but mine was going to be three-toned:

I would use Frog Tape to mask off the five original "intakes" and the horizontal surfaces of the "2.5" and "VW" logos, keeping them the original silver color (I'm pretty handy with an Exacto knife). After spraying everything Salsa Red, I would remove the masking and hand-paint the logos' vertical surfaces and the flat pierced spaces between the "intakes" a flat black.

Or then again, I may just postpone it yet another summer...

BTW, you don't really need hi-temp stuff there, it's not like a brake caliper or anything. I've painted many an underhood component over the years with regular paint with no problems...

What all have you received? Pics of your engine bay? I had Neuspeed caps on my 03 and I loved them. I should never have sold those parts. I'm still kicking myself over that boneheaded mistake.

I like the JCaps. Not sure if I would do the black or the brushed. Hmmmmm

4W would be nice
White was my original thought coupled with the anodized black jcaps covers, but I'm worried about keeping it clean

I've got the works...

I went with the brushed b/c I already had a brushed dynaflow ccv and silver abd strut bar.

But the black is super nice. Can't go wrong with it.

I've got the silver bug now, the black has all the engine jewelry. I'll be back in the burgh' next weekend and will snap a picture for you.

I think there is a couple places selling the neuspeed stuff if you wanted to go that way. Its nice too.

But JCAPS is a small mom & pop type joint. I try to give places like that the buck when I can.

Sorry didn't have time to clean it up at all and snapped the pic in a hurry....
The abd bar makes it tough to get a good pic...
I rotated the CCV puck forward to try and include it in the picture (usually its pointing towards the rear bumper, currently rocking a elephant nose setup). I'm looking for a nice billet or stainless catch can to replace the elephant .
I might have individual pics of the various parts if thats what your looking for.
There is a dip stick cover, coolant cap, oil cap, ccv puck, washer fluid cap, and power steering cap, and kerma widget.
