Default Battery/Scan Tool basics

Hello - We are relatively new NB owners (2 yrs) and are changing out first battery. Our wonderful 2006 2.5L was just in for a few last pick ups since the warranty is running out, and they said the battery needed replacing. I have been doing the regular maintenance for the last 20K miles and use the bible (Bentley).

It has me shopping around for scan tools (since the few problems we've had have been linked to the ECM) but, after some searches on this forum I am now thinking I do not necessarily need to get a scan tool just for a battery change.

Any basic edification would be greatly appreciated and sorry if this is a stale, obvious question. I will hang up now and listen to your responses.

Cheers!

You will not need a scan tool to replace the battery. Once the battery is replaced, reset the clock, unlock the radio and relearn the one touch window function.

Clock resetting - if it has to be explained, one shouldn't be driving a car in the first place.

Unlock the radio - turn ignition on but don't start engine. Turn on radio, it is starts playing, done. If it says "safe" then "1000", pull key out of ignition. Put key right back into ignition and turn ignition on, do not start engine. Radio should unlock with that. If not, hope you got the radio code. See owner's manual.

One Touch Windows - with engine running, roll windows all the way up. Then pull up on the window switches and hold for 1 second, release, pull up for 1 second, release, pull up for 1 second, release. One touch up and down should now work.

Make sure you have the key out of the ignition prior to doing the battery swap.

I have read of several Orgers doing this. Really not much different than using the solarcharger that was in the NB when it was shipped from Mexico.

More on...
Changing the Battery. Gimme your thoughts!
