Default Valvoline Synpower 5w-30

Can I use the SynPower 5w-30 in a 2.5L 2007 New Beetle or should I try to find 5w-40, I've looked everywhere with little success, can I use 5W-30 for the time being and change back to 5W-40 later on, any information is great, thanks.

Question

Can't imagine where you are that you can't find 5w40. Complete your profile so we at least know your car and whereyou are located if your going to post up questions where this is applicable.

The 5w30 is okay, and will not preclude you from using 5w40 next time. Mobil 1 doesn't make a 5w40 for gasoline engines, but does have a 0w40 which meets VW specs. This may be easier to find than the 5w40, although there are over 20 oils that meet VW specs. The Mobil 1 is excellent, and because of the 0w rating is my preference as it will flow quicker during cold start-up.
