That's soo funny, we have the same car!! There is another red/tan convertible beetle around town here that has a trailer hitch, what funny coincidence! How does it do with all that weight back there? Do you have a manual transmission (I hope)?

Actulley there is no downword pressure and I have an automatic but I switch it over the the manual shift and do I do not go into 6th gear at all , but seems to tow with no effert on the car , its amazing how much more power with the 2.5 under the engine, I was pulling the 67 Bettle with my ford ranger 6 cyl.
before this. so I am minus one cyl now *lol* The 67 wieghs about 1800 pounds, how much does you boat and trailer wiegh?

Are the autos DSG transmissions? I wanted a manual when I was searching for mine, so I didn't actually drive any autos. You remind me a lot of myself! We've got two convertible NB's and had a coupe a few years back. I'd like to find an old Karmann Ghia to go along with the collection, but I'd probably need to sell the TR-6 due to not having enough room for all 4 cars.

As for the boat, I think it only weighs about 550 lbs with the trailer. It honestly doesn't even feel like the boat is back there when towing, but still the Beetle makes an awsome towing car. I want to buy a new home in the spring, so I'll find something with more space because I've been thinking about getting a small pop up camper, who knows... might be fun.

Go out to the car and look at the shifter my friend.

Move it to the right side of the console and you can
shift that car manually

On another note. we are crazy in love with Beetles and we just sold our Westy Bus a couple months ago, as we to do not have the
room for 6 cars *LOL* About 2 years ago I picked up a portable 12X20 garage at Menards for about $300.00 it works very well, even in the Iowa Winters !!

Not sure what state your in , but if close we should meet up one day!

A portable garage??? Oh I have to get one of those!! We have a condo with no garage unfortunately, hence the need to move. Besides, I'd like to collect more "junk" ha. I am in the Columbus, OH area, a little ways off from Iowa, but you sure seem like our kind of people! :-) Are there any New Beetle meet ups? I suppose there is waterfest, but I've never been.

Default Portable Garage

Amazon.com: Instant Portable Garage Shelter Canopy or Carport 12'x20'x8' House Style Peaked Roof: Automotive

Shelter Logic makes them. they work very well.
I just strung a rope across each side middle roof for the
snow load and that works great as well. you can find
a better price if you look around. mine was on sale
for about $300.00 when I got mine. if your careful
you can put (2) Beetles in this one.

One of the best car shows was just this past month at
MID-AMERICA (Effingham IL.) So many Beetles new and old I could not keep
my head straight !

The only NB to get the DSG is the 04-06 TDI's.

The other "tiptronic" transmissions available in the gassers are a traditional auto with a "manual" shift option.

Default Towing with a New Beetle

I am new to this forum so I hope I'm doing this right....I have a new beetle convertible and want to be able to hitch a carrier to the back for vacations...Did you have the hitch installed by someone or is it easy enough to do by yourself?

Thanks for any help

That's an awesome set of pics there. I'm planning to buy a Draw tite hitch for my '08 NB this Spring. I'm going to be pulling a jet ski with it next summer.
