How much for a Dealer installed 2.5 Engine?

Sounds about right for the stealership cost.
What ya need to do is to find a shop that specializes is only VW/Audi.
The stealership will bend you over backwards everytime.
What happened to the old motor? If ya don't mind me askin?

It's OK, the Car is under warranty so it was free.

The old Motor destroyed itself when an intake Valve broke and fell into the # 4 Cylinder.

We bought it new in 2006 and it has 47K miles on it...

It has always been Dealer serviced every 5K miles by the way, so the Engine failure wasn't caused by lack of maintenance. The Warranty People came into the Dealership to check the Maint records and condition of the Oil, it had only been changed two weeks before.

Things like this can happen at any time for mutiple reasons, has anyone else heard of any kind of catastrophic engine failure on a new Beetle? Just curious.
