I agree, your's does! If they were all like that people might not have all the issues with these that they do. I doubt, however, that they do much for lighting the subject ahead, any better than stock halo's do. What color (k) are they? Once you get beyond white, increasing the k value will not improve the leumens. They produce a much brighter, glaring light immediately in front of the vehicle, and appear very bright to oncoming traffic, but do little if anything for producing useable light for vision. HIDs can greatly improve vision, but the correct color AND aiming is very important to obtain this result.

Thanks for the props on the cutoff, M. I had to adjust the DS as it was way out of alignment. As posted earlier, I have a 5K kit. I don't want the ricer blue or blinding light and I am very happy with the outcome. The lane lines really pop! I can't wait to see how they look when its raining.

Sorry about missing the 5k note. Right at the limit. And it sounds (and from the pics, looks) like you did it ALL right. Congrats on a NICE job! Let us know your thoughts after driving it in a heavy rain or snow. How much bounce back, etc.

Could you post some pictures of your OSRAM Night Breaker Plus headlights?

I would like to see how bright and what color output they are before I make my decision on HID kit and OSRAM Night Breaker Plus.

After reading this thread I am wanting HID lights for my Beetle. I always thought there was more involved but it looks like a straight forward and fairly easy installation and the kits are not as expensive as I thought they would be. I assume that the HID's last longer than regular bulbs?
Was it difficult to aim the HID's once installed in the OEM housing? Maybe an HID kit is something Santa can bring me for Christmas. I hope it's not too late to send him a letter.

Recommended for all 55W HID installations but most American and European cars work at 35W/55W without the harness. The harness is definitely recommended for Quad's and other ATVs or when running multiple HID installations. This harness is a fused relay isolation harness capable of supplying 20A at 12vdc.[/I]
Hey Opelmania,

So I went to that site but I am not sure which kit I should order. They have a couple of different kits one is called the Raptor Full size kits and the other is the DDM HID kit Slim Ballast. I assume it would be the later. Now as I understand it you did order the harness but ended up not using it. So at this do you have any issues with the lights at all without the harness or are you happy and trouble free? Did you get any mounting brackets or error code eliminators? I don't think I need those things but just want to be sure.
Thanks for getting my all excited about putting HID's in my Beetle. My wife thanks you too since I am already spending more time with my Beetle than her

I used the slim kit. You don't need the error code eliminator. You could buy the mounting brackets and try to figure out a place for them, or zip tie them or just wedge them somewhere. Don't blame me for loving your nB and spending all that time with it. I was going through a divorce when I really started modding mine.

He didn't need them since the early Beetle's had H1 bulbs all the way around. The newer Beetle's use H7 bulbs and I am not sure if you need the H7 to 9006 adapters.

Pretty sure DDM has direct fit H7 kits. Don't know why you would need 9006. They have those too. DDM has a huge selection of different types of lamps.

I have to check on my Beetle to see if the Low Beams stay on when the High beams are on. I guess I never noticed since I hardly ever use High Beams.

As far as temperature range goes. I would go with the lower scale like 4500-5000k 4300k is the closest to real sunlight and also the brightest. Once you go up the scale you get lower light output and the color turns ricer blue. Some people like the 6000k. But even that I think is way too blue for my taste. Going 8000k or more just looks juvenile and the light output would be less than what you get with regular bulbs. But if you owned Hondas in the past and if you are 17 years old I guess go for it.

12000k? You might as well but black lights in your headlights and wear sunglasses at night. That's about the light output you will get. Besides being 100% illegal (well any aftermarket HID kit really is) it also increase fatigue and reduce light output to next to nothing. If you want some sort of color and still have decent light output don't go over 6000k.

Yes, your low beams stay on with the high beams but the fogs go off when you turn on the high beams. I have the 35W 5000K kit and I like them a lot. I think I would go down to 4300K if I had to do it again.
