Default Brake Light

2007 Beetle, All lights work until headlight is turned on and then brake is depressed and then rear light goes out on driver side. No brake light no running light nothing on driver side. Brake light works fine when no headlight is on. Is that just a bulb or do I have more wrong than meets the eye?

It could be you brake switch on the back of the brake pedal, Cheap for the part from dealers and a simple diy fit!

It's a widely known about problem with Bugs

Passenger brake light works fine though!
How would I test this to determine?

Try swapping the bulb from the left to the right and see if the problem changes

If the bulb(s) is/are coming on in any switching scenario, then going out in a different switching scenario, it's NOT the bulb. Try "lifting" the spring contacts slightly in the socket to make better contact with the bulb. Sounds like a bad ground problem, when lights do all kinds of "funny" things.
