Lightbulb 06 nbc back up cam install part one

This is my install for my 06 NBC
I wanted to try and make it as clean as possible
and the camera was pretty simple to install, later
I might cut out the license plate cover so it will cover
the metal back camera part. otherwise here goes. this only
lets me load 15 pictures at a time so the next part will
be the rest of them. I also will do the install on the
video screen (Part Two )install tomorrow with photos. I do not want
to use the aux jack plug so I will be installing it into
the clock wiring. and the wire should be hidden that way.
I should only have to use about 4 inches of screen wire
and solder it in place , this way there will be no big old
cigarette light plug and wire hanging all over the place.

On my 06 I noticed two open holes behind the license plate.
So I used the left one to run the cam wire through and then removed the right back up light
to get to my power source. The (wireless) color system cost was $99.00

I will edit the second post and add info if you wish and complete the screen install in the AM noticed where I might place the cam as I don't not want to look down I want my head to be at the same level to be in view of all the side mirrors, rear view and cam at the same time.

Thanks for the install, can't wait to see it finished. Please give a detail impression of the video performance I think this is a much needed accessory for vert drivers . BTW can you see if a cell phone or GPS interfers with the signal? Thx.

PART TWO MONITOR INSTALL :
Palafox, I did not notice any interference from my cell phone OR my GPS as you can see in one of my pics of all units on laying on my seat. I finished and went for a drive (in town) and did notice some interference maybe it is from the wireless INTERNET? I also am going back out and removing the ground wire from the board and I am going to just wire it to the inside mirror base to see if that will clear up a bit.( I think this cam is on 2.4 Ghz )
UPDATE ::::>>>>>>NOPE::: Changing the ground wire did not change a thing.wish I left it alone LOL .

Other notes: used a 1/8 drill bit for hole ( drilling the small 1/8 hole is the only alteration I made to the car )
Scotch 3M Stick Tape for holder and soldered my connects. (no screwing screws in plastic )
The back wire with white strip on the board is the KEY ON ONLY
Wire... And the brown is the ground wire. Also give yourself about 2.5 feet when you cut the end off the monitor wire to work with while doing your work.

Posting the pictures now and then I will go back and edit them.
Hope this helps folks out.

Very cool... the monitor has no buttons? so that's why you tapped the backup lights ie turns on when u reverse?

I like your clean install approach.

Default Read reviews before you buy your cam.......

If you decide at some point to install a back up cam I would not suggest that you get this brand/model audiovox, unless you plan on hard wiring the monitor to the back up lights to solve the problem of flickering while not in use, I got it cuz it was half price and after installing it that there is much interference otherwise it is perfect when in use. I still have not tested it long enough but I did not want someone to run out and by this cam with-out reviewing it on-line first. I will let you know how it does in the next month or so. if I decide I don't like it I will change it out for a better brand and still wire it the same way. I think it being 2.4 GHz is the problem however I have not tested it long enough yet to give the cam itself a bad review. The flickering could be a Annoying problem while driving at night. And I am sure there are even better cam/monitors out on the market. but at least you have all these picture to help guide you in the future on what ever way you decide. good luck!
Thanks for your complements gang.

The good: The Audiovox wireless rearview camera is easy to install with only simple hand tools on most cars. The inclusion of infrared illuminators allows for clear rearward vision, even at night.

The bad: The monitor's screen is tiny and picks up interference when not in use, which can be distracting while driving at night. Camera's easy installation makes it an easy target for theft.

The bottom line: The Audiovox ACA250 wireless rearview camera provides an easy way to increase the safety of your vehicle while backing up, if you can deal with the wireless technology's rough edges.

Audiovox ACA250

Offering a simple, four-wire installation on most vehicles, the Audiovox ACA250 wireless backup camera can be installed by a person comfortable with simple hand tools in an afternoon. For your labors, the camera system greatly increases the low-speed safety of your vehicle by giving you a looking into the large rear blind spot directly behind many large trucks and SUVs. For smaller cars, the addition of a backup camera may not open up too much more visibility, but we've found that they can be tremendously helpful for pinpoint accuracy when, for example, parallel parking

The camera's field-of-view is broad, thanks to its 110-degree wide-angle lens, but is ultimately determined by placement. Drivers will want to experiment with whether the upper or lower license plate mounting bolts will yield the best results for their particular vehicle.

Because of the ACA250's extremely easy installation, just two screws and a wire, we were concerned that the easily accessible camera could be easily stolen by a determined thief with a screwdriver. We'd have liked to see the mounting bolts feature a unique key, or at least a hex socket and key, instead of the ubiquitous Phillips tipped screwdriver. This would add an extra complication to the already dead-simple installation and require that the owner not lose the key, but it would give us better peace of mind when parking at a shopping center or otherwise outside of a locked garage.

Performance
Usage of the ACA250 backup camera couldn't be easier. Simply select Reverse and it does its thing. The monitor is always on and always looking for a signal from the camera, which--as stated earlier--is only active when it gets power from a reverse light. The signal from the reverse camera is clear and, under most situations, devoid of interference. Of course, no reverse camera is meant to replace the vehicle's mirrors and common sense, so be sure that you look before backing up.

When not in use, however, the system's simplicity proves once again to be a gift and a curse, and its rough edges make themselves present. Because of the always-on nature of the system, when the camera is shut down, the monitor is still searching for signals. At best, this means you get a constants stream of flickers, flashes, and static on the tiny screen. This can be particularly distracting while driving at night, when the flickers stand out in an otherwise dark cabin. At worst, the monitor will pick up wireless transmissions from other sources, such as security cameras or, on rare occasions, 2.4 GHz wireless television transmitters.

While the rogue signals were slightly annoying when we were only picking up images of local businesses, we could see this becoming a downright awkward privacy issue if, for example, your neighbor's house is equipped with a widely available wireless security camera system.

Interference is more prevalent in heavily populated urban areas, so suburbanites and rural users will experience less static and flickers. Some drivers will be able to ignore the screen's activity and benefit from the added safety provided by the presence of a backup camera, but for more easily distracted drivers, the constant onscreen activity could represent a compromise of overall vehicle safety.

In sum
All things considered, for owners of large vehicles with poor rearward visibility the addition of a backup camera can greatly increase the safety for the driver and those around the vehicle. The Audiovox ACA250 wireless rearview camera system is an excellent and low cost way to add that extra safety with an afternoon of wrenching.

The Audiovox ACA250 wireless rearview camera system's simplicity makes installation and operation a breeze, resulting in high marks for design. Of course, the simplicity of the system could also be viewed as a weakness when considering things like theft deterrence, but we didn't count that against the design score. However, we do recommend that owners take the extra step of visiting a hardware store for more secure hex key screws.

The ease of use and the inclusion of infrared night vision also resulted in high scores for features and performance. We did, however, penalize the ACA250's performance score because of the distracting static and flickering of the monitor when the system is not in use. A better designed system would be less intrusive when not in operation and certainly wouldn't pick up signals from other devices.

However, your mileage may vary depending on the number of 2.4 GHz wireless devices in your area.

Very nice, thanks for doing all the legwork and like u said this writeup comes in handy even if someone goes with a different set-up.

With the popularity of apps, I wonder if there can be a smartphone solution, similar to the bluetooth ODBII transmitters that syncs to smartphones for telemetry and code clearing.

I seen some off brand GPSes that have BU camera features but I wish the major brand did this, that way the screen gets more use.

Thumbs up First Day.... 1/30/12

Went for a really long ride today and the cam did really well as far as the flickering problems... did not flicker at all when I was out of town, just a small amount around town. still have not tried it in the dark yet to see if it will bother me or not. but today was a good day for the cam.

I will also be looking into (maybe) finding out if I can some how run the camera wire across and down to the fuse box area (with NO wires showing) and see if I could tap into there where hopefully there would be a back-up light fuse. then that way the cam will only be on when placed into reverse. more to follow.

Wouldn't ya know it. My OEM (VW) Battery finely gave up today
been over 6 years for that battery. so I installed a New Interstate Battery today !

Default Conclusion-- 2/3/12

After driving in the dark for a couple days I have decided there is way to much wi-fi interference. (to much flicker)
Day time not so bad. I have already moved my monitor to the
left side dash just in front of the speaker. I also am going to run a wire from my left rear back-up light to the monitor
so it will (ONLY) be on when put into reverse. ( no more flickering) otherwise it works great for seeing out the rear.
boy you sure can tell who has WIFI with this monitor though LOL
Still trying to figure out if I can tap into a back-up light wire closer then all the way to the rear. not understanding the Bentley so much in the wire diagrams.
