Sugarloaf Mountain

Saturday November 4th

Dickerson MD

Please join us in - most likely - the last GTG in MD before jack frost comes roaring through. We will meet in the East parking lot in Sugarloaf Mtn at 11:30am, where we will chat and stare at each other's Beetles. At our leisure, we will do a small hike up the mountain, which isn't actually that big. It is right outside the city, after all Elevation is 1,282 ft, if anyone knows how big that actually is.

The mountain is home to many different types of trees, for the tree lovers. For the animal lovers, it houses many white tailed deer, flying squirrels, red foxes, bunnies, raccoons, owls, woodpeckers, turkeys (just in time for Thanksgiving GOBBLE GOBBLE), and hawks. Rattlesnakes and copperheads have also been spotted. If you're lucky, my accident proneness won't let anyone down and I'll get bit. You are free to point and laugh.

Entrance to the parking lot and mountain are free! I'm planning on eating before hand, but there is a snacking place somewhere on the mountain in case anyone gets hungry. We're trying to make this as cheap as possible

Official website is here: http://www.sugarloafmd.com/index.html

The leaves look beautiful and the views are great, if you've never been out here, now is the best time! Don't forget to dress warm, as it is a little more chilly towards the top.

Directions and meeting spots
Take 270 to exit 22 (Hyattstown), go down Rt 109 towards Comus. After about 3 miles, make a right onto Comus Rd, and go another mile or so to the mountain's entrance. There will be signs, just in case. There are something like 4 different roads to take at this point, but you want to stay kinda straight. If you're looking at roads 1-4 (left to right), you want road #3. It says "mountain entrance", but I missed it the first 3 times.

Drive up the mountain (please drive carefully, there are nasty turns, especially with the leaves on the ground); eventually when you think you're lost, there will be a sign that points to the East and West sides. Go to the right towards the East side, and we will meet in that lot.
