It looks harder than it is. I didn't install mine the first time ... had Sears do it, cold, rainy long workday, second time I had to pay them to do it again ... because they replaced the battery for free. I have had it out a few times since the first replacement.
I got mine to jump start both times, but it took a while once.
The Beetle has a lot of electronics ... the battery does not charge at idle ... especially in the winter when you have the heater on, heated seats, heated mirrors, rear window defogger, windsheild wipers and the tunes cranked up ... sitting in traffic on the way to work probably discharges the battery slightly, and you should all know that in cold weather an engine requires more AMP's to turn over and start, and a battery delivers less juice.
