Make sure your oil is leaking from the filter. My beetle has a small drip leak as well, and on cold starts it loses about a pint until the car warms up and expands the metals and rubbers. I first thought it was the filter, and when I went under the car, I found it was leaking from the oil cooler. I suspect the O-ring is worn so I bought a new one and waiting to replace it while I do my next oil change in a few days.
