At the Mid-America Motorworks Funfest for Air-Cooled Beetles held in Effingham, Illinois, there are between 1000-1200 Beetles (some New Beetles) on the grounds.

Hmm, I could have sworn that we had 300 or so in the second year, but maybe that number is inflated. 250?

In any case, yes, Air-Cooled bugs are more popular. They've also been around much longer than we have!

We were very happy with the 53 cars. It's gotten to where many of us don't go for the cars so much anymore as the people. The cars are just a nice bonus!
