Completely different projector bowl, shield, focal point, lens and bulb holder. It has big effects on the light output. HID kits in stock halogen projectors have hotspots, poor light spread and creates glare for oncoming drivers.

Stock H7 halogen Bosch projector on left, Bosch D2S HID projector (Audi TT, BMW E46, etc) on right. Same mounting flange, completely different projector.
