My dealer required the VIN number and the serial number off of the side of the radio. If you don't want to pull the radio from the dash to get the serial number, look beside the manufacturers sticker and the drivers door post and there will be a seperate sticker with just a number on it, nothing else, that sticker is your radio serial number. On my 2000 you turn the radio on, enter the code with the first four preset numbers and then hold down the arrow button (scan?) that points to the right on the right side of the preset buttons until the radio plays.
