So again, morbid curiousity made me go look. (and listen). ......wow.......I never would have guessed that music was from Holland. It wasn't that bad tho. Well OK.... yes it was. But I'd rather listen to that than the crap they play today that's nothing more than a large woofer creating sonic booms throughout the neighborhood.
Actually, we have something in the US today that resembles that Dutch music. It's called Tejano. It's regional (and ethnic) so you'll only find it in abundance in certain cities (mainly those along the US-Mexico border). It evolved in South Texas and is a style of music that has roots in the German "oompah" style band and the Mexican/Spanish music of old. The Tejanos (people born in Texas of Mexican descent) are the primary fans of this music.
Here is a little blurb on it's history ->
Tejano Music History So you can see a distinct European influence there - similar to what I was hearing in those videos.
Out of the 4 songs, Lieveling was the most tolerable. If it were in English, I could easily see this one at least making the charts back in the 1970's. It also has a slight resemblance to the style of ABBA.
BTW what does Lieveling mean?
