I thought the same thing when I read the description of the fatal piece of wood. I'm so glad I installed my Panzer Plate a month or so ago.
You could always drop a whole bunch of batteries, electric motor and other goodies and go for an e-Beetle.
I've been thinking about that...cost of the conversion is probably close to what you would get a good used beetle for though.
