Car: a project jetta in a state of (dis)repair

i have my deposit in, and my donor vehicle already (99.5 jetta tdi).

there is no such thing as a "rolling chassis" kit 'toine, it's on you to find a donor vehicle.

i'm excited to see the FINAL product, i've been sourcing goodies here and there for the build already, i will probably only need the actual kit itself by the time they're released.

the kits will be about $10k, with some welding involved. i plan to cash in the favors i have stored up with welder friends to get the car welded up so i can complete the assembly process. i'm waiting for the final go-ahead, and then it's cut the roof off time and start parting the car out.

a good donor vehicle could be found for under $2000 as rear-end damage is ok. the front towers must be in good shape as the kit does use them, but if you look, much of the back half is cut off.

i was going to start with a 2.0 as they are inexpensive and plentiful, but i got a sweetheart deal on the tdi and figured why not. the tdi is a great candidate for this because it's a "fair" condition car at best. while a strong runner, the roof has hail damage as well as the hood and trunk. the doors also have many parking lot dings, as well as the beginnings of surface rust due to an issue with the 99.5 galactic blue paint. reselling the tdi MAY net $3000 at most, but as a base for the kit, it's priceless.

stay tuned because once i get the kit, sawzalls will be flying and welders will be fired up.
