Jon, at least two of us have had major problems with seals purchased with our 1.8T timing belt kits form ECS.
I wound up having to spend a lot of extra money getting my cam seal replaced twice, once with yours and secondly with a OEM one from VW. The OEM cam seal is working fine.

When I called ECS about a replacement, they told me "Too bad, you can't prove it. It's not our problem. Want to buy another?"
So, that kind of put a sour taste in my mouth because then I had to buy another seal (bought it elsewhere) and I had to pay to have it put in, and we looked at the defective one, and it was definitely a defect, not damaged in any way by the mechanic. ECS said that since we'd already installed it, it was my problem to deal with , no returns, no warranties, etc.

I think it's time to do a quality inspection regarding your seals.
