Default Here's an idea...

I know this is an older thread, but I just noticed it and had to chime in --
I know this will sound strange, but use a wet dryer sheet to get 'em off. Lovebugs are the worst for any paint job and I was at my wits end trying to scrub the guts off every couple days during the seasonal onslaught. Someone on TV mentioned it (forgot where I saw it or whom it was) so I gave it a shot.
And it worked!
Here's the best part: Will not scratch and I didn't even crack a sweat.
Just take your average run-of-the-mill dryer sheet and wet it down, apply to affected areas with a little rubbing, and - TADA! - our dearly departed little friends vanish, then rinse it all off.
So simple even a caveman can do it
