I do alot of painting and overspray is a common byproduct, so I use superfine steel wool all the time to remove it from glass and I have yet to have a single scratch on the glass. Your choice but I'm just letting you know my experiences with it. If you don't think it will work, try it out on a piece of glass somewhere around your house and you won't believe how well it works to remove hard water. I always use a good protector afterwards like rain x. Again, just my experience, ignore it if you want.
