What is all that on top of the battery? do I need special magic to get this thing out? do I remove the fender, hood, left tire, flower vase, ect. to get this thing out?

HELP!
For future reference, attached is a copy of the battery change procedure from the service manual. Really straight foward when you follow the "road map" of "how to".
