1944 Beetle/New Beetle Convertible
Well, I did it. Ordered a New Beetle Convertible as a fun car for me and my wife. This is not the first VW I know. Here is a photo of me, mom, and our dog in front of the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin. Yes, WEST BERLIN, the photo was taken in 1948. My late dad was an American Army Officer stationed in West Berlin during the Blockade. To buy a car, you entered a lottery and got to buy whatever was available if your name was drawn. Dad's name got drawn and he was disappointed that the car was an Ex-Wehrmacht bug. He took it none the less. Good thinking, several months after he got the car the Russians blockaded the city and he had a car that got better gas mileage that the others. He could not stand the German Army grey so he had the car repainted maroon and the bumpers chromed.

He got the car in late 1947. We were stuck in West Berlin until the blockade ended. He brought mom and me to the US for the first time in 1949. When he left West Berlin he sold the car to another American Soldier.
