Talking VW Rescue

On Saturday night, the Peninsula VW Club had dinner at the German Music Store and Café in Yorktown (awesome food by the way).

During dinner, a couple of members told us about a lady in a neighboring town who needed to get rid of an inoperable old VW van (or two). She'd asked if the club would be interested in taking them off her hands. She is moving out of state and won't take them with her, and she really didn't want them to go to the crusher.

Met the rest of the club members at 1 pm and we caravaned over to the lady's house. she had a LOT of stuff. we actually "rescued" THREE old vans---a Westfalia camper, and two Transporters. The Westy and one of the Transporters are salvageable, and we'll use the other one Transporter as a donor car...she also asked us to take the rest of her VW stuff...a couple of engines, cases, engine parts, etc. and she thinks there are at least two more engines buried somewhere in her garage.

A long afternoon. Good thing we had ten people show up to help, and most of us were there from 1 pm til 8, when we finally dropped off the last van.

Learned all kinds of new skills...creative tree-trimming, taking down (and putting up) chain link fences, and ground guiding tow vehicle and old van through numerous yard obstacles...managed to get them out of the backyard without bending any sheet metal.

the lady who gave us the van shed a few tears when the vans were towed away...a lot of memories for her, and she thanked us for keeping 'em in the VW family. although it may take a year or two to get the vans back on the road, we're going to send her some photos when the two vans are finished. a great day.

Default vw rescue

We also do a lot of vw "rescues" Here are some pictures http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/americ...tory/my_photos. The first three pics are of a 67 13window deluxe. The light blue bus that follows is a 58 double door panel. These two were found in a junkyard getting beat up by a front end loader and about to be crushed. We made the 67 bus run and drive in a few hours and was sold to a friend of ours who has wanted a bus for a long time. ( I think he picked it up today) by the way that bus was for sale a few blocks away from him for many months; and I was on my way to see it, when I got a call about rescuing it while I was driving by that very place where the bus used to be. We picked up both that day.
That white car is a kit car there is a vw pan under it. You bought the kit from the company and you got all that. It has hydrolic lifts that pop open the top so you can get in. Ooh and it has ac.
After that photo there is a blue 65 panel. I saw this panel many months ago at an auto swap meet. And I have to admit I was thinking of buying it but, I already have a bus. And, it is a really nice bus compared to that one. The panel found my friend Dave and he bought it cheap.
The little beetle is a sad case. We call it "the 1,2,3" The pan is 61 the body is 63 and the roof is 62. (I think) WE might make a beetle out of it someday.
And here is what I am working on. (at the moment) http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/americ...tory/my_photos
