These days you can fly a real airplane and partake in a dogfight, drive a NASCAR stocker at speed around any number of race tracks or even play astronaut if you have enough disposable income to pay for the flight into outer space. I'm wondering how many here would be interested in an opportunity to enter a regional (club-level) performance rally and actually compete with the world's first New Beetle Rally Car - the reasonably famous StudBug which was featured in the "Cute Car" commercial that aired in millions of households back at the turn of the century (http://www.realautosport.com/pics/Be...al[1].mpeg). Package prices would vary based on which rally was to be run, whether you want or already own your own Nomex, helmet or other personal safety equipment, whether you'll bring your own codriver and a handful of other variables, but just about anything necessary to compete in the same sport that featured Colin McRae and Travis Pastrana at X Games this year can be made available.
![]() A lower cost option could be driving the multi-championship-winning V-Dub on a closed stage road just for the experience of doing it in the dirt. No competition, no codriver (other then me if you want) and the chance to set a time and then ride along to see how far off my mark you might be. So what say you? I'm certainly talking more money than a day at the amusement park, but you might just look back on such an outing as the experience of a lifetime. Post your ideas here or email me at mehalleyATyahoo.com

Oh that sounds tempting, I think what we really need is a grudge match against Herbie.

We can definitely do the deed so far as racing is concerned. I hate to sound this way, but all it takes is money or an an introduction to a lucrative enough sponsor that I'd be compelled to let the person responsible loose with the car in appreaciation. If there's enough interest to justify my purchasing a two car trailer the costs of delivering the car to any round of the Rally America series (all of which offer companion Regional events) to which I am already going would come down markedly. Stand-alone Regionals far from Tulsa, Oklahoma would, by necessity, be a spendier proposition. On the other hand, Rallye de Paris '07 - just 200 miles away - could be downright affordable. Anyway, it's certainly something to think about if you are looking for an EXTREMELY unique highlight to your 2007! |
