Alrighty then, time to wake up the dead over here. Is anyone going to be AutoX'ing, Rallying, or Time Trialing there Pod's this year?

I had my first event for '08 yesterday at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia. Click here for more details.

Just starting the thread again in the off chance that anyone else is as goofy as me in trying to take on the spec Miata’s and older BMW 323’s head-to-head on a track.

If you are, start posting information on your upcoming events, and then some details on how we faired against the competition.

For the EMRA Racing Organization, I run in ST4 and for SCCA events I run in the DSP group with my '01 1.8T bug.

Don’t be shy and always “run what you brung”..

Boggity, boggity, boggity, let's go rac'n…

Fist EMRA event of ‘08: Summit Point Raceway, West Virginia
Track: Shenandoah Circuit
Layout: 1.9 miles, 14 turns including a dimensional replica of the Der Nurburgring Carousel with 20 degree banking (boy, that was worth the trip right here!!), while most other corners incorporated negative camber changes and decreasing radius corners positioned on vertical drop entry points. Basically a roller-coaster that you can drive on...
Time: 1:56:23
Place: 2nd in class

Beat out all but one of the race prepped Miata’s, which beat me out by less than 1 second. Great weather and a fabulous course layout coupled for an incredible experience.

Bubbastoybox (Larry) came out for a while on Saturday to catch the action. There was also a bike event over on the Summit Point Circuit for a full day of fast track action.

Next up is Pocono South on Saturday May 3rd.

EMRA is doing their ‘race-for-a-buck” program again this year to stir-up some interest in the Organization.

See our website for more information: EMRA Racing

Hope to see some Org folks at these future events.

TechnoTrix’d….

BTW, here are some pictures courtesy of Bubbastoybox..

Excellent!! Please post some detailed info on the event or a link out to your Regions SCCA calendar.

Would be great to have as many local Org folks come out and cheer you guys on as possible.

Don't forget to post as many pictures of the car going through the course as possible.

Hi - well, I had my first driving lesson tonight with a manual transmission on none other than THE STUDBUG!!! My husband and daughter know how to drive manual but I never have until tonight!! The StudBug was very patient with me even though I revved his engine a few times! So much fun!! Oh, my husband was very patient too! I am now a StudBug driver (not a good one but having fun getting there!!)

Anyone nearby should check out the prosolo that the Finger Lakes Region SCCA is hosting in July. We run on an abandoned runway thats practically in the middle of nowhere. Its guaranteed to be a good time. My bug will be there (although I'll be running a type arrrrrr) and Studbug will probably be there too. That should be incentive enough to come check it out. The event isn't full yet, so sign up if you want to play!

RV's and/or camping allowed at the event? It's about 5 hours from my house, so not a big trip. Would come up the day before and get set-up though, so at least one over-night would be required at the Depot.

Thanks........TechnoTrix'd...

Hi- Love the pics - the Beetle looks awesome!!!! Looks like a great time! Here is a link for information on the Pro Solo at the Seneca Army Depot in NYS. Accommodations should be listed too - HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!! This area is gorgeous - Finger Lakes Region! There is no one who doesn't like racing here! FYI, there are white deer, protected, that roam around and if you are lucky, you will see some grazing along the fence.
http://home.rochester.rr.com/avery/index.htm If this doesn't work, just go to FLR SCCCA website and they will be happy to answer any questions. THE STUDBUG WILL BE THERE!! He may/may not be racing but he will be there visiting!

Camping isn't allowed on the site, but Sampson State Park is right across the street. Most people will be staying there. You can leave cars and any other equiptment on the site overnight though. There is a police station on site and they will be patrolling at night, as well as a few locals.

Sunday was FLR's first event of the season at RIT. It went fairly well. I think my r comps from last year have one too many heat cycles on them though, because they were worse than street tires. Needless to say, I didn't do so well. Everyone had fun though, and some guy from the Democrat and Chronicle seemed to like the bug.

More updates next week after WNY's first event on Sunday.

Hey great shots Zeouljin. One question though, are you running an OEM suspension? And, what tire size do you run (i.e. 205/50/16 or maybe a 215/45/16)?

I have the July event penciled in on our calendar, so we will have to see how it shakes out.

Best of luck this weekend, post-up the results.

Thanks! I hope you can attend.
Yea the car is totally stock; I didn't do anything to the suspension. The tires in the picture are 215/45/16 v710s, but Sunday I'll be on my new 225/50s if I drive my car.

Default I'm in…

I didn't think I would get started up again, but got a rear sway bar and took a first place. Now I forsee spending more dang money.

www.rmsolo.org (dsp results)

I ran the same tires as Zeoujlin in G Stock and gained 1.5 seconds, on average! Too small now, DSP engine mods just spin them the whole lap.

Back then I was chasing the Mini Coopers stock with limited slip in G Stock, now there aren't any. (at our nationals event there were 24 mini coopers!) Goes to show, people will buy a whole car just because it's competitive, NOT because they like it.

GO BUGS

Autox always seems to lure the true addicts back.

What pressures were you running? I know you probably have suspension done and that will make a difference, but I was just curious.

Agreed! I've got my friend in a Mazda 3 to deal with all year, of course he always beats me like he did today. I was embarrased at how much he beat me by though, usually I'm only ~2 seconds behind him. Results. Maybe it was a combination of tire pressures being to high, me driving like an idiot, and something being wrong with the car (my check engine light keeps coming on and going off, then coming on and flashing and the car starts acting funny, then going off again). I'll get it fixed soon. Oh well, I had fun and everyone else had fun even though it was wayyyy too cold. Pictures will be up as soon as my mom and a few other people post them on the website. Ciao until next week.

Default got another one... two total

we get these little magnets for first, (different color for any podium finish) - it looks kinda like WWII fighter pilot "kills" after you get a couple.

Shows any new-comers how things are going at a glance too.

>>Zeouljin, in stock class i ran 40 up front and 25 in back. Can't do that now, they're pretty even, experimenting with 35 and 35. (sorry so late to reply)

Alright, I guess I haven’t been here in a while, so I have lots of updates.

May 11th – FLR event 2
I drove my friend Brian’s Fmod for this event; it was my second time in the car. Its an amazing machine but totally crazy. I ended up finishing second behind Brian, beating a solo vee and the other red devil because he never had a fast clean run. Results. Pictures.

May 18th – WNY event 2
What a horrible day for autocross – it rained all day long and was freezing cold. I drove my friend Dave’s type r. We started on r comps but switched to street tires after the first heat because the r comps were worthless in the rain. Still had a lot of fun though, and that car is definitely awesome. Results.

May 25th – FLR event 3
Seneca Army Depot finally! 70s and sunny – perfect autocross weather. Brian and I used my bug for this event which was definitely a mistake. The course was fast and open and would have been perfect for the fmod, but we had no tow vehicle. Again the car did horrible, and we came to the conclusion that the tires are too much for the car. The 225s are great for cornering, but the car just can’t ever pick up any speed with them. I’ll probably end up selling them to my friend and buying 215s again. I ended up beating Brian, but we were both beat by the focus that I used to be able to easily beat last year with the 215s. Results. Pics.

June 1st – WNY event 3
Seneca again! A little chilly and overcast, but the rain held off until we were finished. Brian and I learned from our experience the previous week and made sure we brought the fmod. 3rd time in the car and I almost beat him at the end of the first heat. My second run was .24 behind his second run which made him a little nervous, but he figured he caught me on the third by dropping two seconds, but I answered right back and ended up .28 behind him. Unfortunately that ended up being my best run of the day because at the beginning of the second heat I decided to have some fun in the weeds and almost killed a course worker. Luckily I didn’t break the car, but that kept me more conservative for the rest of the second heat. Brian ended up figuring something out, and dropping another two seconds on his third to last run. We finished 1st and 2nd in FM beating the other red devil and solo vee, and ended up 1st and 4th in pax.
Results.

Next up is an open testing day at a track and a few more events at Seneca before the Prosolo July 25th – 27th (be there!). Hopefully Brian and I can win some tires for the fmod.

Ciao until the next time I remember to type up some updates.
