Its not mine, but I thought I'd pass it along since it seems like something that someone could either fix for themselves and keep or make a lil money on.
Single owner 1999 VW Beetle needs a diesel injection pump. It has 184K miles on it but has new timing belt and water pump. Car is in excellent condition and gets somewhere between 45-50 mpg. I will eventually replace the injection pump but thought I would attempt to sell "as is" since it would be a good buy for someone who could make this repair for less than what a VW dealership would charge. Kelly Blue Book is just a little less than $6000. If I don't get any hits on this initial listing in 4 weeks I will get the injection pump replaced myself and then advertise the car for $6000. I am fairly confident that it won't take long for me to sell it at that point. I paid $200 plus to a local VW dealership to diagnose the problem with this vehicle and have the documentation to prove it. The engine in this car (1.9 liter TDI) is a very high mileage engine. It is not uncommon for you to find VW's with this same engine that have 500K miles on them. The only reason I am selling this vehicle is that I am no longer commuting but working from home - and simply want a bigger vehicle to accommodate my families needs. This initial listing period won't last long and represents a substantial savings for someone who understands how valuable a 50 mile per gallon vehicle is with today's gas prices.
