With that budget, you're looking at an early 2.0, and that's a giggle to drive with the manual, but auto not so much :dunno:
If you're patient, you might luck out and find one here. That's the best kind to buy, since our members have the interest and drive to maintain their cars religiously (and I'm not just saying that out of .Org loyalty :) - if I was out to buy one today, that's what I'd look for.

Thanks! My husband drives a Ford Expedition right now, so I am sure he will LOVE his Beetle if we can find one. They are sooo hard to find here in Alabama! We had to drive to a dealer in Georgia to pick up my Rabbit, and it was new!

to the OP i will check and see if we are selling my beetle..I know that the last time we were we were only asking $4250 for it(its a 98 with ~95xxx on it) its a silver 5 speed and im in phoenix

There are a lot of NB colors I would not own--it is preference. I don't want a color that screams, "hey, look at me!", because I am more reserved than that. All yellows and the NB greens would be on my "no list" too.

My husband is looking for a New Beetle. Mileage is not an issue, neither is engine type. Would prefer an automatic, but if the price is right and the car is nice he could live with an manual. I keep telling him he is just jealous of me and the VW Rabbit!:D
