I did the math and it used 2.5 gallons of gas and it went about 82 miles. But it might be better since I might have gone a few miles more. Now that the spedo works and I can use the odometer to accurately measure miles it might be better. Plus a valve adjustment might help too.

Using mapquest and adding up the places I went 88.68 and that means 35.472 mpg and I was going over 65mph during some of the trip. ;)

Heh. Who needs a smart car! We can think small with the OB's, have great gas mileage and still have room for plenty of stuff.

Hey Rafel, do you know of this used auto dealer off of Fletcher Ave, that has air-cooleds on their lot. It's near USF, right near 22nd St., right about where Popeyes chicken is. I discovered it when I was in Tampa over the weekend. Sorry, I was in and out, and couldn't meet up with anyone:(

:D funny thing i heard and drove by that about that place last week when i drove my mom to a doctor's appointment. the guy certainly has a lot of vws there.
i have seen places like that before where the owner does not want to part with anything he has then most of them end up being crushed or rusting away beyond repair. killed by the guy who 'loves' them.

Are you telling me that VW dude is hoarding them, and not selling a one??? Please, say it ain't so.

I had seen the place before and it looks exactly as I remembered it. The guy probably has more projects than he can handle. In this pastime there folks who hoard instead of rescue and that guy is probably one of those. :( Fortunately they made more. Besides they look like they are all late models. :D if you go for an old vw go for something before 67'.

I topped up the tank and after the math it ended up being. 27.6 mpg. Not bad I am going to work on it some more and see if I can get that higher. :)

One of the best things about driving a car this old is that pan handlers actually belive it when I tell them "I have no money." and that is the truth. I have no money. :D to give away anyway.

I can't remember the last time I filled the tank in the new beetle and this old one is a gas sipper. I put it together to run on regular. ;D

I've had as little as 6.5 gallons per mile (gas leak) to 37mpg (cruising at 45mph on back roads. On the highway at 65 I get about 29 which Ironically is identical to my New Beetle at that same speed even though it weighs twice as much and makes more than triple the hp. :D

I get about 28 city and 29 highway but average about 32 to 35mpg because most of my driving is done cruising through the metros with very few stops and mostly sustained 40mph speeds. :)

edited to state that I am running a 1641cc single port, 009 dizzy and a crap Bosal Pict30/31 carb all while swilling the cheapest lowest grade gas I can stuff in the tank. I'm hoping to be able to switch out to the new Empi and see how that does. :)
