what does shimming a diverter valve mean and what does that do

when you shim and spring a diverter its basically like tuning your diverter valve when and how much it opens.

Forge DV's can be fine-tuned with different springs and shims. What you're doing with the shims is basically increasing the strength (rate) of the spring in small incriments, and therefore making it stronger and able to hold more boost before opening. In Forge's case, each spring has a different rating for ball-park figures and the shims let you fine-tune.
