$5.20 I think that it will be over $6.00 by then I just can't spend that money on driving out from California. Have a great time I will miss seeing y'all this year.

Yeah - that bites! But I understand.
Maybe something will break by then...probably not - wishful thinking on my part. I'm getting ready to drive up to New Mexico on to Colorado with these insane prices - that's no where near the mileage you would have to travel though.

New buggie owner here. GTG sounds like fun. Where is Cajunga?

Jacob can give the "Official Definition", but I will try.
Jacob's brother found an extra meal that we all have been missing because we all have this obsession with sleep.
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Cajunga

It's the meal between Dinner and Breakfast...usually happens after midnight.

Every year since its introduction we have, in some way, observed this tradition. Usually after the meet and greet we end up cleaning the cars somewhere and after that go to Steak and Shake or the number two location is Crystals. Both of which I believe have late hours or are a 24 hour joint.
One year we did it after the Drive-In...but that makes for a long night/next morning and trip home.

Well the meet and greet might be at some guy named TJ's house.
The location should be the same as last year...Parker Square, but I need to make sure that we have it reserved.

I updated the website, there are some details to be added, but it is pretty much going to be the same as last year.

Still debating on doing shirts as "Pre-Order Only", we lost our ass on that last year because of the rain which caused low turnout.

Has everyone marked the date and still planning on coming to the show?

Yeah, if you don't have the cash - a trip this far is a problem.

We are hopefull for a good showing of our more local and Texas VW's - spread the word those of you that are planning on making the trip...and those that haven't decided yet - come on down!

Don't forget to RSVP for the Meet and Greet so you can get directions emailed to you! Everyone is encouraged to come, we just don't want to post the address online since it is a private residence this year.

Come on down!!!
We'd love to have you show. We have a Stock category for folks that have new cars that want to participate...just clean the car up and show up, check out everyone else's car and enjoy talking New Beetles with other owners

Friday is the Meet and Greet - PM myself or Phoenix Rising for directions.

Saturday - Flower Mound, just north of Lewisville
http://www.dfwnbclub.org/TNBRU/showlocation.htm

Saturday night - Drive In at Ennis

Sunday is the Rally....which I think we are going to change to a "Photo Rally" - which will take us from Lewisville to Downtown Dallas with choice photo stops on the way.

This link takes you to the show page...it's pretty up to date, we have changed the show charity, other than that most of your questions can be answered.
http://www.dfwnbclub.org/TNBRU/

If you still have questions, don't hesitate to post! We really want everyone to come!!!

BTW - did the trophies last night...so there is one waiting for you and everyone else on this board!

So If I bring a caravan from Houston, Will you bring a caravan to our night show?;)

I would so love to tell you yes, but I haven't gotten a feel for who is planning on making the Houston show this year.

We had two of our caravan of 5 get popped with 4 tickets on the way back and at the time they swore they weren't going down that road for another year or so. I probably am only doing our show this year after promising to make the Tulsa show.:( I know...I suck! After getting stranded in Amarillo a couple months ago and basically spending $3k on my car, I am short on travel funds and time.

marvins_dad
09-03-2008, 11:51 PM
Last time it rained and we had about 20, mostly out of towner folk. Most of locals stayed home (apart from our club members)

In the past years we had around 45-50, but I would imagine that it would be lower numbers this year because of the gas issue and we were late on promoting the show. Normally we send out mailers, but this year we are relying on the internet and relationships with existing clubs and sites.

We've been talking this morning about cancelling.
We are going to watch the weather and hopefully Friday by noon we will make a decision.

If it looks like it is going to rain all weekend it isn't worth attempting the show.
If there is a chance that we will be dry until Saturday evening we will.

Any of you Houston folks or other folks that still are going to make the trip we can plan to get together for dinner somewhere if the show is canceled, not like I had anything else planned this weekend.:p:(

Looks like we will make a decision tonite so we can let you guys know before you head out.

If some of you guys still come from Houston to take advantage of the Host Hotel rate and get away from the Hurricane, let us know - we will probably throw together a get together for you guys - take over a restaurant or something and hang out one evening.

marvins_dad
09-11-2008, 06:08 PM
Unfortunately we never do the rain date - this year especially because of the insurance. We had insurance paid for an entire year and it runs out next weekend.

yeah I was just checking that... new reports are that Ike will not make land fall until 1:00am Saturday and will track in-land due east of the Dallas area...

you guys know the area better, but does that leave the show site in the clear for most of the day...??? rain late Saturday evening and Sunday would only effect the poker-run...

I for one would hate to see the show called off only to find later that it was a "nice" day....

track the storm here: http://www.stormpulse.com/fullscreen/current

PhoenixRising

Here is what I know right now: If Delkos is correct, and the storm stays to the east of Dallas, we will experience little to some rain here in the Lewisville area.

The track of Ike and where it makes landfall will determine our weekend weather here in North Texas. Right now Ike is forecast to make landfall near Galveston Bay just after midnight Friday. It will move from the coast to Mexia then to Canton and on to Paris before exiting the state and sliding into Arkansas. For the DFW area we'll see 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts, 40 -50 mph winds with higher gusts and a small threat of tornadoes east of Dallas. The closer you are to the track of the storm the higher the rainfall totals and the stronger the winds. If the track shifts farther to the east rainfall totals will be lower and the winds will be lighter.

Sorry guys. As I already mentioned to 'toine through texts I guess I'm out. I can't believe I'm doing this! I always stick to my plans! But I'm getting an irky feeling from Ike and will instead be heading north.

Hopefully I'll bring the bad weather with me and leave you guys under beautiful blue skies.

Sorry folks. I really am!

Someone found an indoor warehouse...but I think it is too late and too many folks have canceled their rooms to have the show - and change location at this point...I'll post more later when we make it official.

It's done, the party's over.

This is a bit like when Obama was already the candidate, but they had to have that silly role call to make it official.

This is where I wish the forums didn't have a profanity filter.

I think I'm going to start a new thread.

LOL I saw the new thread in the Suggestions Box.

I find it funnier using the filters.

Dadnabit that fornicating hurricane! LOL

Yeah - our club has voted 11-1 to cancel because of the oncoming fall out from the storm. Even if we don't get rain during the show the high winds will make it really difficult. Besides most folks traveling are canceling their reservations and it seems the locals are so finicky that if there is a chance of a drop of rain they don't show (we found that out last year.)

Sorry we couldn't put on the show this year. The trophies and goodie bags were all ready to go.

If you pre-registered via paypal I'll have Stephen refund your money through paypal.

Yeah - Mike and I just conffered and decided that, despite the last second offering of a warehouse that the change of venue, threat of bad weather and many cancellations that we wouldn't have enough people show up.

Last year we had 21 cars, most were out of towners, a large number were from Houston. Houston crew is out for the most part. We lost our California shower, haven't heard from some of the folks from last year. Last year the only locals that came to the show were one car from Fort Worth, some of the club members and 1 GTI from a local club...the reasoning was, "the others in my club thought it was going to rain".

Thank you all for the valiant effort and for keeping us all updated these last few days. I'm really sorry the show didn't work out and that Ike went after you so aggressively. Keep safe (and relatively dry!) out there! I'll be sure to do a road trip out that way in the next couple of months to make up for this!

Just curious, what did the weather end up doing in the Big D area? What would we have put up with?

I didn't go to St Louis for the beer festival, either. There was supposed to be a hurricane going through there about the time I was coming home. I sat at home (in the rain Sat night! There was a hurricane coming through) and enjoyed a relaxed weekend at home. What did you all end up doing?

It was okay Friday.
Drizzled all day Saturday and some slight winds...would have been horrible show weather.
Sunday was absolutely beautiful!

There is talk about getting together with some other local watercooled clubs to do a joint meetup or show at some point.
Don't know if it will happen this year or plan for next. Just in the beginning process of discussions.

We went to Studio Movie Grill and saw Burn After Reading - Mike, Anthony and Myself along with passangers (except me) - note to self...or Mike, don't bring your 14 year old daughter to a movie like that.
Saturday - I worked from 9:30ish until about 6:30pm...got some take out sushi then crashed after eating on the couch.
Sunday - quickly washed my car to meet up with some of the dfdubs crew (they were really looking forward to the TNBRU) at 11, but then had to leave to go watch the Saints game at TJ's house.
