This is from local VW dealership in Sacramento, and I must say the new Passat does not have a good look in my opinion.

The long strech reminds me of the Mercedes S550 sedan

And the Buick Lucerne

However, I thought the 2006-2008 models looked better

It's a new model, the Passat CC. It goes alongside the sedan, essentially like this:

Mercedes-Benz CLS

I think it's quite striking, personally.

I kinda miss mine, but not as much as any of my NB's.

Are you sure that is a Passat? There is no badging, and I heard that they are bringing back the Phaeton. :dunno:

When the CC (Comfort Coupe') was initially announced by VW, it was to known as the CC only. It was not designated as a "Passat" CC by VW. The reason was that it's position in the lineup was to be between the Passat and the Phaeton.
However, since the target market for the CC is really the U.S., VW caved and started to refer the upscale model as the Passat CC. Mostly because every auto publication and news outlet referred to the new model as the new Passat CC.
It still has somewhat of an identity crisis since there is no identifying badge indicating that it's a Passat or a CC or a Passat CC. Even the VWoA website refers to it as only the CC.
So, call it what you will. Still a very good looking car (IMHO) that's packed with features that would command a much higher price point than what VW is offering for.

Yup, it's the Passat CC (as previously noted). Basically, a high-line, four-seat, Passat coupe that's the more mature of the Passat lineup. ;) On the Monroney, it's called "CC" (as in all VWoA press material), elsewhere in the world it's called "Passat CC".

I want one! It has the new cluster/steering wheel setup (white gauges, white/black MFD), new HVAC controls, it's sexy. :D

I saw a couple at the dealer. I'm not too happy about the body, but I love the interior (black and tan and nice leather, etc). My first thought was that they were trying to ease people into acceptance for the Phaeton instead of dropping it in the lineup like a UFO. I wasn't happy with Phaeton- I would have much preferred the original Concept D car that I think it was begun as. Something about a $75,000 fastback makes me smile... basically the same luxury class as the old VW 411 and 412 in the 70s.

Basically, a high-line, four-seat, Passat coupe that's the more mature of the Passat lineup. ;)It's not a coupe, it's a stupid four-door sedan with ****** rear headroom! What's the point?! :screwy:

And yes, I have exactly the same opinion of all the other Mercedes CLS wannabes, not to mention the CLS itself!

This (http://www.cardotcom.com/cars/images02/06chrysler-300c-srt8-08.jpg) is how a four-door sedan is supposed to look! Embrace the squareness!

This said about something made from a car company near the brink of extinction. As Moon Unit Zappa would say....."Gag me with a spoon!"

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion here, so I'll let it be at that. :D

I like the CC. First picture I've seen and it looks pretty nice. I need to see it in person for a final opinion.

It's pretty hard to get a really unique design in the automotive market. Pretty much every car has some element of another car/brand. Car designers move around a lot - you are bound to get similarities between manufacturers.

I've looked at a couple of Passat CCs and I have to say that I LOVE them. It's one of those cars that I put under the Sexy Styling segment. It definately is not something that I expected from VW. Audi for shure.

I really like the CC so much that maybe Ill get one in the 2.0 turbo version... but then again the Mk VI GTI looks VERY cool!
I guess VW has a very good lineup, if only they make a perfect NEW new beetle...(wishing)

I've always felt the same way about this situation ever since the CLS came out. A four door with coupe lines is still a sedan to me. I think it's kind of aggravating how everyone is doing this now.

However, the Passat CC is beautiful, and I think it's really going to help VW compete as do the MK5s. It really looks like it belongs in the luxury class that the Passat is a part of. It's definitely a car that's going to have people going... "Oh my god, that's a Volkswagen?" I'd love to see the interior. I actually saw one of these at my local (Donaldsons) the other day and didn't know until now that it was a Passat CC. I thought it was a Phaeton haha.

I didn't like it when they changed the design in 2006 - the Passats are looking like every other car out there. I say "meh". :(

I see where you're coming from, and I agree. It's at the point where every car does look alike. The only ones that really stand out are of course the Beetle, and cars that are extraordinarily ugly such as the PT Cruiser (sorry PT fans) and the Element (although the Element is mostly about function and not form). Unfortunately though, if Volkswagen doesn't keep up with the times, they can't compete, and if they can't compete it's bad for us (VW drivers).

So as much as enthusiast don't like when cars are so radically redesigned (you can't possibly imagine what they said about the 2006 3-series over on the BMW forums), it's really to our benefit in many ways.

However, one thing I find with VW is they're not overstyling. I can't honestly say in my opinion that I think they've gone too far on any of their current or previous cars.

 I hate to say it, but I'm a Beetle fan, not a VW fan. I've never really cared for the other models. Well, maybe the pre-2006 Jettas. And GTIs. The older stuff is kinda cool, but 2006 and after, bleh. Sorry. I'm a Beetle girl!

I'd almost buy it for the black/camel color seats; very color-concept like.

One problem I had was that you barely tell the difference between a Passat and a JettaV, so the marketing guys decided it would be better if the $40K car looked different than the $20K car.

Really? I have no trouble seeing the difference between the two. Some minor similarities, but most car companies are like that.

Just think of the A4, A6 and A8. Kinda look like bigger versions of each other. Most companies using styling queues throughout their lineup.

But the CC starts at $27K, not $40K

The CC is a really great looking car. The tails are a bit weird but the evil front-end more than makes up for it.:)

Unfortunately, that look got old quick. Friend has the Daytona packaged Dodge version of the 300. It's a beast (tons of power and it can pull straight up to 130mph on the track), just old looking now.

Great start, but like all American car companies as of the last 15 years, its a once and done design with no follow-though or updating. (e.g. PT crusier, 300/Charger/Nomad wanabe, Dodge Ram trucks, pick any Malibu design, etc..)

Actually the base CC starts at 26k. Same trim levels as the passat (sport, LUX, VR6). It appears they are only $1,500 off in price points, the CC being more expensive than the Passat. Also, only the VR6 AWD version tops the 40K limit.

Probably had every single feature on it (plus markup), too. ;) A loaded Passat CC VR6 4Motion (configured through vw.com) with every option and add-on accessory only hits $43,210.

They're marking these thing up? That's crazy! It's my understanding that the changes made to the CC cost very little and since they are more expensive than a Passat, dealers are already making more profit on each of these cars than a similarly priced Passat.

Which is still crazy money, BUT if you compare it to similar styled cars (Benz, Lexus), it is 30 - 40 thousand less.

Again, it is a styling "thing" and if you like the sleek lines and the upgraded interior, this is a great car for the dollars.

Not to mention the preformance aspect, stronger tuned engine (280 ponies in the VR6) and better suspensions.

I am seriously thinking of swapping my '08 Passat for a similar optioned CC right now. It will depend on the dollars, and if it's close, a CC will be in my driveway very soon. :bigthumb:

I just spec'd one out for $42,725. That's VERY comparable to BMW's 5-series and the Mercedes E320. I'd never pay that for a new VW, but in another year when the market is a little more saturated, you'll be able to pick up the same car for around $30k. VW resale isn't the best in the word, and that's a double-edge sword.

I love the look of the CC, but I'll have to see it in person and drive it before I'd make a decision. I didn't see an option for a manual transmission and that's just a damn shame! :(

Manual transmission is on the 'entry-level' Sport model. Even though it is the 'basic' model it still is very well appointed.

I guess that's why I missed. :p As long as GPS and bluetooth are available on the entry level, I'm good. I'll go back in re-configure a manual one in a bit. :goodjob:
