Ever wonder what the different lens focal lengths look like compared with each other? Well, wonder no more! I have created just a sample!

On a traditional film camera, these lenses would be the equivalent of 18mm up to 400mm. But on my Digital Single Lens Reflex, or DSLR, it ranges from 27mm to 600mm thanks to the Focal Length Multiplier of 1.5. This is because the imaging chip is actually small in size to the traditional 24mm x 36mm film size.

Be sure to compare the backgrounds on each. This is an imaginary effect called compression. I say imaginary because it really doesn't compress anything, it just appears that way. In other words, if I took the 27mm shot and cropped it to match the 600mm shot, the background would be the same.

So without further adieu, here are the shots!

Cool that's a good set of pictures to help explain it. I know I was really confused when Christine was first trying to explain it to me :goodjob:
